This collection is divided into two series. Series I consists of the business records of the E.P Charlton and Co. 5 and 10 stores, as well as F.W. Woolworth Company records. Series II comprises the Charlton Family records. Included are family photographs, a scrapbook, and articles and publications which chronicle the charitable works of the Charlton family.

The F.W. Woolworth Co. was started by Frank W. Woolworth on June 21, 1879 when the "Great 5c Store" opened in Lancaster, Pa. In 1912 Woolworth's merged with S.H.
